Ollie’s story

Ollie's Story

Tuesday, 9 January 2024, was the day that changed my life forever. My 14-year-old son and only child, Ollie, took his life at home after a short battle with anorexia. Ollie's story was a multifaceted one, filled with moments of joy, laughter, and love, but also marked by the deep hurt and rejection he experienced from an absent parent, which compounded his struggles.

Ollie's Echo

Despite my unwavering support, Ollie’s journey with this devastating illness was a constant fight. His vibrant spirit was overshadowed by the challenges of anorexia nervosa and the emotional turmoil he faced, highlighting the urgent need for awareness and prevention of eating disorders in boys.

Ollie's Echo

In memory of Ollie, I established Ollie's Echo: Pathways to Prevention, a charity dedicated to educating others about eating disorders, providing support for families, and advocating for early intervention and prevention strategies.

Ollie's legacy lives on through our efforts to create a world where young boys can thrive, embrace their identities, and access the help they need without stigma or shame.

Our mission doesn’t stop with boys. Eating disorders don’t discriminate—they affect girls, boys, and nonbinary individuals alike. Ollie’s story resonates with girls too, and sharing it helps break the stigma that eating disorders only affect one gender. By reaching young girls, we not only address the broader impact of eating disorders but also ensure that Ollie’s legacy touches as many lives as possible, amplifying his echo.

Our hope is that Ollie’s legacy will spark change. We want every young person—regardless of gender—who feels unseen, unheard, or pressured by social media to know that there is help, that they are not alone, and that their struggle matters. We dream of a future where all children and teenagers are empowered, supported, and safe from the dark paths that claimed Ollie.
